Job Summary:
Blue Sky Hospitality Solutions LLC, a growing company, is seeking a Hotel Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations for a portfolio of hotels they own. The Controller will play a key role in ensuring the financial health and efficiency of hotel operations, ensuring compliance with financial standards, and supporting management in achieving strategic goals. This role will be responsible for managing daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting, while working closely with hotel management and corporate finance to maintain internal controls, create budgets, monitor expenses, and support the overall financial success of each property.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each hotel in compliance with GAAP and company standards.
- Conduct financial analysis, including variance analysis and performance metrics, to support management in decision-making.
- Oversee the preparation of financial reports, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery across multiple properties.
- Collaborate with department heads to create, monitor, and adjust budgets and forecasts for each hotel.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide insights for effective budget management and strategic planning.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, minimize financial risk, and ensure compliance with company policies and local regulations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including hotel tax filings and revenue recognition standards.
- Lead internal and external audit processes, liaising with auditors to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Manage cash flow for each hotel, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
- Work closely with the GM and revenue management to optimize revenue strategies and control expenses across the portfolio.
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, including credit and collections.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering an environment of collaboration and professional growth across multiple properties.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide training to enhance team members’ accounting knowledge and skills.
- Utilize hotel-specific property management systems (e.g., Opera, MICROS) and ERP systems to streamline processes and improve financial reporting accuracy.
- Identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency within the accounting department.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA designation preferred.
Experience:
- 5 to 6 years of demonstrated accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Previous experience in the hospitality industry is a plus.
