Job Description:

As the Area Director of Catering, you will be responsible for overseeing and driving the catering and events business for Marriott 12 Autograph Collection Midtown & Downtown. You will lead a team of catering professionals to ensure the flawless execution of events and exceed guest expectations. This role reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with other department heads to maximize revenue and profitability while maintaining the highest standards of service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive catering and events business growth, including sales strategies, marketing initiatives, and partnership development.
  • Lead and mentor a team of catering sales managers, event planners, and support staff to achieve sales targets and deliver exceptional service.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and industry partners to generate new business opportunities and repeat business.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create innovative and customizable catering menus that meet the needs and preferences of our diverse clientele.
  • Ensure seamless coordination and execution of all catering and events, including weddings, corporate meetings, social gatherings, and special events.
  • Oversee the management of catering contracts, pricing, and negotiations to optimize revenue and profitability.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Uphold Marriott brand standards and compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in catering and events management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of driving sales and achieving revenue targets in a high-volume catering environment.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Suite and catering software (e.g., Delphi.fdc) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of local market trends, industry regulations, and competitor analysis.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Certification in catering or event planning (e.g., Certified Meeting Professional, Certified Special Events Professional) is a plus.
